What happened
During the final approach to Munich-Riem Airport, the crew of the aircraft notified air traffic control of an active fire occurring while at an altitude of approximately 1,500 meters. Recognizing that the aircraft could not safely reach the runway, the pilot-in-command initiated a descent to find an alternative landing site. The pilot successfully executed an emergency belly landing in a nearby field located just a few kilometers from the airport.
Following the impact, the aircraft caught fire and was subsequently destroyed. Despite the intensity of the flames, all 11 occupants were able to evacuate the wreckage without injury.
Findings
Investigations into the incident revealed that the fire originated within the baggage compartment. It is believed that the combustion started inside a box located in that area, though the specific mechanism or exact source of ignition remains unconfirmed.
