What happened
During an arrival at Rivera Airport, the flight crew successfully completed a landing on a runway that was covered in water. Immediately following the moment of touchdown, the aircraft experienced a loss of traction known as aquaplaning. This phenomenon caused the plane to deviate from its intended path and veer off the side of the active runway.
As the movement continued, the impact or terrain caused the aircraft to lose its undercarriage. The sequence ended when the vehicle came to a final stop away from the paved surface. There were no injuries reported among the two occupants on board during the incident.
Findings
An investigation into the event determined that the primary factor in the excursion was the loss of directional control. This instability was directly triggered by aquaplaning on the wet runway surface, which prevented the tires from maintaining proper contact with the pavement.
