What happened

During a charter operation over the Canaima National Park, an aircraft was flying near the Salto Angel falls, east of Mt Auyán-Tepui. The flight was transporting a total of 25 people, consisting of 22 passengers and a crew of three. While the aircraft was at an altitude of 3,000 feet during its approach to Canaima Airport, the right engine experienced a loss of power.

Following this initial failure, the left engine also lost power. This sequence of events caused the aircraft to stall, resulting in a crash in an open field situated approximately 1,600 metres before the runway threshold. The accident resulted in one fatality among the crew and left three others seriously injured.
