What happened
During an approach to Ciudad Bolívar Airport, the aircraft encountered challenging weather conditions characterized by heavy rainfall and reduced visibility. While on short final, approximately 4,800 metres before reaching the threshold of runway 06, the aircraft was positioned too high on the glide path. In an attempt to correct the flight path, the captain performed a maneuver that resulted in the aircraft touching down on the runway.
Following the landing, the crew applied the necessary braking techniques. However, the wet surface of the 1,737-metre runway prevented the aircraft from stopping before the end of the paved surface. The aircraft subsequently overran the runway, coming to a final stop 150 metres past the threshold. Despite the impact, all 65 occupants were successfully evacuated from the aircraft without injury. The aircraft type sustained damage that was determined to be beyond repair.
