What happened

During a flight passing over the "Piranha" reporting point, the aircraft contacted the SBBE (Belém-Val-de-Cans) tower to report that it was performing a descent under night-time visual conditions. Following this transmission, the tower lost all communication with the vessel.

In an attempt to locate the missing plane, air traffic controllers instructed a nearby Catalina aircraft to fly toward the last known reporting point to conduct a search. During this process, the wreckage was located. The aircraft had crashed into Maraso Bay, situated off Carnapijo Island.

The accident resulted in ten fatalities, consisting of six crew members and four passengers. Additionally, one passenger sustained serious injuries during the impact.

Findings

Despite an extensive investigation conducted by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Commission, investigators were unable to determine the specific reason for the crash.
