What happened
During the landing phase at Panama City-Tocumen Airport, an aircraft experienced a structural failure of its forward landing gear immediately upon contact with the runway. The collapse of the nose gear caused the front of the plane to make direct contact with the pavement, leading the aircraft to slide along the runway surface for several dozen meters.
Despite the impact and the subsequent slide, both pilots on board were able to evacuate the aircraft without sustaining any injuries. The incident resulted in zero fatalities and zero injuries. However, the structural damage sustained during the ground excursion was severe enough that the aircraft was declared a total loss, being damaged beyond repair.
Findings
Official investigations into the incident concluded that the primary factor was the collapse of the nose gear during the landing sequence. At the time of the report, the specific underlying reason for why the gear failed upon touchdown remained undetermined.
