Incident Overview
On May 21, 2021, a serious incident occurred involving a Boeing 737-800 aircraft registered as UR-SQB, operated by SkyUp Airlines, performing flight SQP 4500. The aircraft had taken off from Antalya Airport (LTAI) and was en route to Hurghada Airport (HEGN) with 53 passengers and four cabin crew members onboard.
Sequence of Events
The Air Traffic Controller cleared flight SQP4500 to land on runway 34R at Hurghada Airport. However, at 02:07 UTC, the aircraft landed on runway 34L instead. After landing, the Pilot In Command (PIC) requested permission to vacate the runway via taxiway V8. The Air Traffic Controller clarified that taxiway V8 is used for vacating runway 34L, not runway 34R. Subsequently, the PIC acknowledged his confusion regarding the runway assignment.
Investigation Actions
Investigators from the Egyptian Aircraft Accident Investigation Directorate conducted the following activities:
- Created a photographic record of the incident.
- Completed readouts of all available data from the flight data recorder.
- Conducted interviews with the Air Traffic Controller involved.
No recommendations have been issued at this stage. The investigation is ongoing, with the next step being the completion of the Final Report.
Damage and Injuries
The aircraft sustained no damage, and there were no injuries reported among passengers or crew.
