What happened
A cargo mission traveling from Feijó to Rio Branco, which included a scheduled stop in Tarauaks, ended in a fatal accident. The flight was transporting 635 kilograms of various goods and was operated by a crew of two pilots. Because the initial leg of the journey to Tarauacá was estimated to last only ten minutes, the crew elected to fly with the landing gear extended.
Shortly after departing from Feijó Airport, the aircraft experienced mechanical issues involving the right engine. This failure led to a significant loss of airspeed and altitude. In an attempt to recover, the captain ordered the landing gear to be retracted, but the maneuver could not be completed in time to prevent impact. The aircraft type struck a tree, which resulted in the loss of 3.2 meters of the right wing. Following this impact, the aircraft became uncontrollable and crashed into a forested region, where it subsequently caught fire. The accident resulted in 2 fatalities.
Findings
- The crew operated with the undercarriage in the down position due to the short duration of the flight leg.
- Technical problems with the right engine caused the loss of necessary performance to maintain flight.
