What happened
A twin-engine cargo flight traveling from Sorocala to Cascavel struck the ground approximately 700 meters before reaching runway 33. The aircraft was transporting a cargo of pharmaceutical supplies at the time of the incident. During the final approach phase, the aircraft descended below the established glide path and made contact with the terrain. Upon impact, the plane's undercarriage was torn away, and the vessel slid for roughly 150 meters before coming to a complete stop.
Despite the severity of the impact, both pilots managed to exit the wreckage without sustaining any injuries. The aircraft itself sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
Environmental conditions at the time of the accident were characterized by night operations and poor visibility. The area was experiencing mist and localized patches of fog, with a reported visibility of 1,200 meters and a cloud ceiling of only 100 feet. At the time of the crash, the navigational infrastructure at Cascavel Airport was limited to an NDB. The primary factor contributing to the accident was the aircraft descending below the glide path during the approach in these low-visibility conditions.
