What happened
On the morning of the accident, a cargo flight departed from Jundia decade at 08:00 local time, destined for Eldorado do Sul. The aircraft was operated as a freight service, transporting a shipment of automotive components. The flight was manned by two pilots.
Approximately thirty minutes before the scheduled arrival, the crew began the descent phase of the flight. During this period, the flight crew noticed a technical anomaly regarding the left engine, specifically noting that the torque indicator failed to drop below 1,300 lb. ft. Despite this observation, the flight continued toward the destination.
As the aircraft transitioned into the final approach for landing, the crew performed a shutdown of the left engine. Following this procedure, the aircraft experienced a loss of control. The aircraft type impacted a rice paddy field situated just short of the runway. The impact with the ground caused the left wing and the undercarriage to be severed from the airframe. The accident resulted in two injuries to the crew, with one pilot sustaining serious injuries.
Findings
- The crew identified an inability to reduce torque levels on the left engine during the descent.
- The shutdown of the left engine during final approach preceded the loss of control and subsequent crash landing.
