What happened
On the evening of the accident, a twin-engine aircraft departed from Belém-Val de Cans-Júlio Cezar Ribeiro Airport at 19:07 local time. The flight was destined for Almeirim and was transporting a crew consisting of one pilot and nine passengers, all of whom were employees of a firm involved in local hydroelectric station construction.
While maintaining an altitude of FL85, the flight experienced several irregularities. At 20:23 local time, the pilot established communication with ground controllers to begin the descent toward the destination. During the night-time final approach, the aircraft descended below the required altitude and struck the terrain approximately 5 km before reaching the runway. The impact caused the aircraft to burst into flames, and the wreckage was completely destroyed.
Findings
- The aircraft was operating during nighttime conditions.
- All 10 fatalities occurred as a result of the impact and subsequent fire.
