What happened

During the final approach phase of flight to Steamboat Springs-Bob Adams Airport, a single-engine airplane struck the terrain on the side of Mt Emerald. The mountain slope is situated to the south of the airfield. Following the impact, investigators located the wreckage in the vicinity of the mountain's summit. The debris field was situated approximately 5 km from the threshold of runway 32.

Findings

All four people on board the aircraft were killed in the accident. The investigation confirmed that the aircraft impacted the slope while attempting to land at the airport.
