An aircraft on an ammunition supply mission was destroyed after being struck by enemy fire while flying over Vietnam, resulting in no survivors.

What happened

During a mission to transport ammunition, the crew departed from Nha Trang. While the flight path took the aircraft over Vietnamese airspace, it was hit by ground fire. Following the impact, the aircraft became uncontrollable and proceeded to crash in an unpopulated region of Phum Dak Dam, situated south of Cambodia near the border with Vietnam.

The incident resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft. There were no survivors among the eight crew members on board.

Findings

Investigations into the loss of the aircraft concluded that the primary reason for the crash was that the plane was struck by enemy fire during its flight over Vietnam.

Probable cause

The aircraft was downed by enemy ground fire while operating in Vietnamese airspace.
