What happened
On the morning of March 26, 2019, a Piper PA-32R-301T, registered as N316DG, was completing a landing at West End Airport (MYGW) in Grand Bahama. The aircraft had originated its flight from Stuart, Florida, USA.
As the aircraft was performing its landing and subsequent rollout on the runway, the right main tire experienced a blowout. This mechanical failure resulted in the pilot losing control of the aircraft, leading to a runway excursion. There were no injuries reported among the four occupants on board during the event.
The investigation
The AAID conducted a limited-scope field investigation into the incident. Investigators examined the circumstances surrounding the landing and the mechanical state of the aircraft. The investigation confirmed that the weather conditions at the time of the occurrence were within visual meteorological limits and did not contribute to the event. The scope of the inquiry focused on the sequence of events from the moment of the tire failure through the loss of directional control.
