What happened
On March 11, 2018, at approximately 2:50 PM, a Cessna 402C, registered as N55LP, was involved in a runway excursion at Exuma International Airport (MYEF) in the Bahamas. The aircraft had previously departed from Pitts Town, Crooked Island (MYCP) as part of a private flight.
Following the landing, the pilot attempted to decelerate the aircraft using the braking system. During the rollout, the pilot noted that the brakes provided limited effectiveness. As a result of the excursion, the aircraft came to a stop on the runway with both main gear tires deflated. There were no injuries reported during the event.
The investigation
The AAID conducted a limited-scope field investigation into the incident. Investigators reviewed the circumstances of the landing and the mechanical performance of the aircraft's braking system. The investigation established that the weather conditions at the time of the occurrence were within visual meteorological conditions and did not contribute to the event.
