What happened
On July 3, 2018, at approximately 10:00 AM, a Piper PA-32RT-300T, registration N4432B, was performing a private flight from San Salvador International Airport to Lynden Pindling International Airport (MYNN) in Nassau. The aircraft was carrying two occupants, consisting of one pilot and one passenger.
As the aircraft was completing its landing and executing the roll-out on the runway, the nose gear collapsed. This structural failure caused the aircraft to become disabled on the runway. The impact resulted in damage to the nose cone, the nose gear assembly, and the undercarriage. There were no injuries reported for the crew or the passenger during the event.
The investigation
The AAID conducted a field investigation into the occurrence. Investigators examined the aircraft and the circumstances surrounding the landing. The investigation confirmed that the weather conditions at the time of the incident were not a contributing factor to the event. The scope of the inquiry was limited to the mechanical failure of the landing gear during the landing phase.
