What happened
During a flight originating from Kyzylorda, the flight crew began their descent toward Astana Airport and prepared the aircraft for arrival. While performing the landing configuration, the crew deployed the landing gear; however, the nose gear failed to extend from its wheel well.
Upon realizing the nose gear was stuck, the captain aborted the initial approach and performed a go-around. While flying in a holding pattern, the crew attempted to manually deploy the gear, but the mechanism remained non-functional. After approximately 50 minutes of circling the airport, the decision was made to proceed with a landing despite the gear configuration.
The aircraft touched down on runway 22. Following the impact with the runway, the plane slid for several dozen meters before coming to a complete stop. Although the aircraft sustained damage beyond repair, all 121 occupants were able to evacuate the aircraft without injury.
Findings
