Incident Overview
During a routine flight from Kyzylorda, the crew began their descent to Astana Airport and configured the aircraft for landing. Upon lowering the landing gear, the captain realized that the nose gear remained stuck in its wheel well. The approach was immediately abandoned, and a go-around was initiated.
Attempts to Free the Nose Gear
While holding, the crew attempted to lower the nose gear manually, but these efforts were unsuccessful. After a 50-minute holding circuit, the decision was made to land without the nose gear.
Landing and Evacuation
The crew executed a landing on runway 22. After touchdown, the aircraft slid for several dozen metres before coming to rest. All 121 occupants evacuated safely. The aircraft sustained damage beyond repair.
