What happened
A cargo operation traveling from Nairobi-Wilson Airport to Guriceel, Somalia, ended in an aircraft accident during the landing phase. The aircraft, which was transporting a shipment of khat, was operated by a crew of three. Upon touchdown at the destination, the aircraft experienced significant issues with braking and deceleration.
As the plane failed to stop within the available runway length, it overran the landing area and entered rough terrain. During the excursion, the aircraft sustained heavy damage, including the loss of the nose section and the left main landing gear. Despite the impact, no fire broke out following the event. All three crew members managed to exit the aircraft without sustaining any injuries.
Findings
The primary factor in the accident was the inability of the aircraft to decelerate sufficiently before reaching the end of the runway.
