History of the Flight
The aircraft, a Cessna 172M registered as 8R-AFS, departed from Eugene F. Correia International Airport with a flight instructor and student pilot on board to conduct training circuits at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA). Eight circuits and touch-and-go landings were completed before the student pilot commenced her first solo flight. During the third solo circuit, the aircraft was instructed to extend the downwind leg for runway 11 and was cleared to left base for runway 06. The student pilot then requested and received approval to perform a right-hand circuit to land on runway 11. The aircraft touched down and bounced, then touched down on the nose wheel, which became detached from its fork.
Injuries
Only the student pilot was on board. She was not injured.
Aircraft Damage
The nose wheel separated from the nose wheel fork. The aircraft continued skidding along the runway on the nose wheel fork, eroding it to approximately half its original length. The nose oleo strut was fully decompressed. Both propeller blades sustained tip damage. The engine and propeller experienced a sudden stop, resulting in extensive damage to the propeller and nose landing gear.

Her total flight experience was 28 hours and 24 minutes, all on the Cessna 172. She had not flown in the previous 12 days. On the day of the accident, she completed approximately one hour of training and a pre-solo check with her primary flight instructor before being released for her first solo flight.
