What happened
During a scheduled charter operation traveling from Buenos Aires to Quito, with a planned stop in La Paz, an aircraft struck the side of Mt Sincholagua. The flight was carrying a total of seven people, consisting of two pilots and five passengers.
As the flight was performing its descent toward Quito-Mariscal Sucre Airport, the crew began the approach under favorable weather conditions and at night. While the aircraft was descending through an altitude of 16,000 feet, it collided with the slope of the 4,899-meter peak. The impact occurred approximately 45 km southeast of the destination airport. Search efforts located the debris field the next morning, confirming that there were seven fatalities and no survivors.
Findings
At the time of the accident, the weather was reported as good, and the flight was in the descent phase of operation.
