What happened
During an approach to Krasnoyarsk-Severny Airport, a four-engine aircraft encountered challenging meteorological conditions characterized by low visibility. While performing the final approach, the aircraft descended below the necessary altitude and made contact with the ground approximately 250 meters before reaching the runway threshold.
The force of the impact resulted in the separation of the nose landing gear and the left main landing gear. Following the initial collision, the airframe slid across the terrain for several meters before coming to a halt, at which point the left wing became partially detached from the fuselage. Despite the significant structural damage to the aircraft, there were zero fatalities as all occupants were successfully rescued from the wreckage. The aircraft was subsequently declared a total loss.
Findings
Investigations into the accident determined that the primary factor was the decision by the crew to proceed with the approach despite weather conditions that had fallen below established minimum visibility requirements.
