What happened
During the final approach phase of flight into Magadan Airport, a four-engine aircraft descended below the required altitude and made contact with the terrain before reaching the runway. The impact caused the landing gear to be severed from the airframe.
Following the loss of the undercarriage, the aircraft performed a belly landing on the ground. The plane slid for several dozen yards across the surface before eventually coming to a complete stop. While the incident resulted in the total loss of the aircraft, there were zero injuries reported among those on board.
Findings
- The primary factor in the accident was that the aircraft was flying at an insufficient altitude during its approach to the runway.
