What happened
On May 18, 2025, at 18:05 UTC, a loss of separation occurred between a CESSNA 510, registration F-HIMC, and an AIRBUS A3/21, registration EC-NIA, while climbing to cruise altitude. The incident took place within the Madrid TMA at the NANDO 3B point, following departures from Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport.
At the time of the event, the Madrid TMA was operating in a southern configuration. Both aircraft were under the control of the East-South Departure (DES) sector, which was integrated with the Director (RES) sector. Both crews were receiving instructions to climb to their assigned cruise levels. At 18:04 UTC, while at an altitude of 24,000 feet, the aircraft lost required separation. This triggered a TCAS resolution advisory in one of the aircraft, prompting the crew to execute the necessary avoidance maneuver. During this sequence, Air Traffic Control (ATC) was simultaneously providing instructions for a left-hand course change.
Following the encounter, both aircraft continued their flights to their respective destinations without further incident. No injuries were reported among the crew or the 197 passengers on board the Airbus A321, and no damage was sustained by either aircraft.
