What happened
On June 3, 2025, at 16:26 UTC, a private Cessna 206G, registration YV1983, departed from the Itewequen Indigenous Community in Bolívar State, Venezuela, bound for Santa Elena de Uairén Airport (SVSE). The aircraft was operated by a single pilot.
While on final approach, approximately 5 nautical miles from the airport, the engine lost power and subsequently shut down. The pilot immediately executed the in-flight restart checklist; however, the engine failed to restart. After declaring an emergency to the control tower, the pilot performed an emergency landing on a roadway located 6 nautical miles from the airport. The aircraft landed without damage, and the pilot was uninjured.
The investigation
The JIAAC investigation included interviews with the crew and a comprehensive review of flight logs, licenses, and medical certificates. The authority also examined the aircraft's airworthiness certificate, registration, and radio station license, all of which were found to be valid at the time of the occurrence.
Investigators inspected maintenance records from the maintenance organization (OMAC) responsible for the most recent scheduled services. Technical inspections focused on the fuel system, including the removal and inspection of the main fuel filter, the fuel control unit (FCU) filter, fuel hoses, tank drain valves, and check valves. Additionally, investigators performed a visual inspection of the fuel and conducted an engine run, which showed parameters within the manufacturer's operational limits.
Findings
- The aircraft was airworthy and all required documentation, including insurance and maintenance records, were up to date.
- Meteorological conditions at the time of the event were favorable, with calm winds and unlimited visibility.
- The investigation is ongoing to determine the specific cause of the engine power loss.
