What happened
On January 18, 2025, a Tecnam P2002 JF, registration LV-GPQ, was conducting a local flight training mission at Morón Aerodrome in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The flight, which included a student pilot and an instructor, departed at 13:20 UTC under visual meteorological conditions.
After approximately 90 minutes of flight time, the aircraft landed on runway 02. While the crew was taxiing via taxiway Foxtrot, the right-side main landing gear drag link partially failed. To prevent further significant damage to the airframe, the crew immediately shut down the engine. The aircraft came to a halt on taxiway Foxt to near the intersection with taxiway Hotel.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the mechanical failure of the landing gear component. Following the event, the crew notified air traffic services, and ground personnel were dispatched to assist the aircraft. The investigation confirmed that the occupants were able to egress the aircraft on their own without any injuries. The aircraft sustained minor damage specifically localized to the main landing gear area.
Findings
- The primary cause of the incident was a partial failure of the right-side main landing gear drag link.
- The crew responded appropriately by shutting down the engine to mitigate secondary damage.
- There were no injuries to the student pilot or the instructor.
