What happened
On November 16, 2021, a Fairchild SA227AC, registration LV-BGH, was conducting a local flight test at San Fernando International Airport in Buenos Aires. While the aircraft was climbing at approximately 2,000 feet after takeoff, the crew observed a deviation in the parameters of the number two engine. In response to this instability, the crew elected to terminate the flight as a precaution and immediately initiated procedures to return to the airfield.
The aircraft successfully landed on the San Fernando runway. There were no injuries reported for the two occupants on board, and the aircraft sustained no damage during the event.
The investigation
The Argentine Transportation Safety Board (JST) reviewed the technical details of the engine malfunction. The investigation focused on the instability of the engine parameters during the initial climb phase of the flight. After evaluating the characteristics of the occurrence and the condition of the aircraft following the landing, the authorities determined that the event did not pose a threat to operational safety.
