What happened
On December 18, 2024, at 16:19 UTC, a Bombardier Challenger 300, registration LV-GOK, was performing a repositioning flight from Laguna de Sauce, Uruguay, to San Fernando International Airport in Argentina. The flight, operated by New Lines S.A., was being conducted without passengers.
During the landing phase on runway 05, the aircraft experienced a runway excursion. The aircraft traveled beyond the airport boundaries, breaching the perimeter fence and striking a parked vehicle on a public road. The impact and subsequent post-impact fire caused extensive damage to the surrounding area, including several nearby homes. One residence required demolition due to the risk of structural collapse. The aircraft's airframe and both engines were destroyed in the event.
The investigation
The Argentine Transportation Safety Board (JST) launched an investigation into the accident, focusing on the sequence of events leading to the excursion. Investigators examined the aircraft's maintenance history, the crew's certifications, and the operational procedures of the operator, New Lines S/A.
As of this provisional report, the investigation is reviewing the aircraft's maintenance records and the crew's training and instruction variables. The JST also examined the airport's infrastructure, including the state of the runway and the response of the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) services. The investigation noted that while the operator's Operations Manual was valid, it lacked specific company procedures for landing and standardized communication checklists. Furthermore, the investigators were unable to access certain safety management records and crew training logs at the time of this report.
