What happened
On July 24, 2022, a Cessna 560, registration LV-KFB, was conducting a ferry flight from Pisco, Peru, to Salta, Argentina. During the landing phase at Aeropuerto Internacional Martín Miguel de Güemes, the aircraft's main landing gear wheels locked up while the crew was applying brakes. This sudden lockup caused both main tires to burst and resulted in light damage to the wheel hubs and braking assemblies.
The investigation
Investigators examined the sequence of events following a technical stop in Pisco, Peru. Prior to departure from Peru, the crew had engaged the parking brake while waiting for takeoff clearance. Upon receiving clearance, the crew moved the parking brake lever to the "off" position. However, after the aircraft came to a stop on the runway in Salta, the crew noticed that the parking brake lever was stuck in a halfway position, rather than being fully disengaged.
Field inspections of the aircraft's braking system revealed no mechanical malfunctions or technical failures. The investigation focused on the crew's actions and the cockpit checklists used during the flight segments.
