What happened
On March 11, 2025, a Cessna 182T, registration LV-CJK, was conducting a local training flight in the Comodoro Rivadavia area of Chubut, Argentina. The flight originated from the 13 de Diciembre aerodrome with a destination of General Enrique Mosconi International Airport.
Upon landing at the destination airport, the aircraft experienced a mechanical failure involving the nose gear assembly. Specifically, a loss of pressure caused the nose gear cover to break. This malfunction resulted in the aircraft exiting the active runway and coming to a stop on a taxiway. There were no injuries reported during the incident.
The investigation
The Argentine Transportation Safety Board (JST) conducted a desk investigation into the event. The inquiry focused on the mechanical failure of the nose gear component and the subsequent runway excursion. The investigation confirmed that the aircraft sustained minor damage. Following the incident, the aircraft was moved to the airport apron, where the nose gear cover was replaced, allowing the aircraft to return to service.
Findings
- The primary cause of the runway excursion was a loss of pressure within the nose gear system.
- This pressure loss led to the structural failure of the nose gear cover.
- The incident occurred during a non-commercial, local training operation under visual meteorological conditions (VMC).
