What happened
On March 11, 2025, at 20:21 UTC, a Tecnam P2002 Sierra, registration LV-S060, was conducting a flight evaluation for a private pilot license. The aircraft, operated by ProFlight, departed from Morón Airport in the province of Buenos Aires.
During the initial climb phase, at an altitude of approximately 400 feet, the engine experienced a loss of power. The crew immediately declared an emergency and initiated a 180-degree turn to return to the airport. The aircraft subsequently landed on taxiway Alfa. There were no injuries to the crew and no damage was sustained by the aircraft. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to a hangar without further incident.
The investigation
The investigation was conducted as a desk investigation. Following the event, the aircraft was sent to an aeronautical repair workshop for inspection and necessary maintenance. The technical inspection revealed that all spark plugs required replacement due to the presence of lead deposits.
Findings
- The primary cause of the power loss was identified as a malfunction within the powerplant group.
- The presence of lead sediments in the spark plugs was the specific technical factor contributing to the engine performance issue.
