What happened
On April 13, 2021, a Cessna 501, registration LV-BFM, was performing an executive general aviation flight from San Fernando Airport to Córdoba International Airport (Ing. Aer. A.L.V. Taravella). During the landing phase of the operation, the aircraft experienced a failure of a component within the right main landing gear system. This failure caused a puncture to the tire cover, which subsequently led to the aircraft coming to a halt on the runway.
The investigation
The Argentine Transportation Safety Board (JST) conducted a technical investigation into the event. Investigators examined the condition of the Cess/501 and the specific nature of the mechanical failure. The inquiry focused on the integrity of the landing gear assembly and the impact of the component failure on the aircraft's taxi and stopping capabilities. The investigation confirmed that the incident was limited to a system/component failure that did not involve the engine group.
Findings
- The primary cause of the incident was a failure of a component within the right main landing gear assembly.
- This failure resulted in a puncture to the tire cover.
- The incident resulted in minor damage to the aircraft.
- There were no fatalities or injuries reported among the two occupants on board.
