What happened
On April 24, 2021, a Cessna 150G, registration LV-CRY, was conducting a general aviation training flight at Morón "Presidente Rivadavia" Aerodrome in Buenos Aires. While the aircraft was performing maneuvers in the approach circuit for runway 20, the engine experienced a sudden loss of power. In response to the power loss, the pilot performed an emergency landing, which resulted in the aircraft coming to rest on the runway margin.
The investigation
The Argentine Transportation Safety Board (JST) conducted a technical investigation into the incident. Investigators examined the aircraft's condition following the event and analyzed the circumstances surrounding the engine failure. The investigation focused on the mechanical performance of the engine and the flight path during the approach phase.
Findings
- The primary cause of the incident was a loss of engine power during the approach phase of flight.
- The aircraft landed on the edge of the runway rather than on the paved surface.
- There were no injuries reported for the crew or any passengers involved in the flight.
- The aircraft sustained no damage as a result of the landing.
