What happened
On April 19, 2023, at approximately 15:11 UTC, a Jabirú J430, registration LV-X471, was conducting a flight test to verify equipment for INVAP. While operating in a cruise phase near Monte Ralo, Córdoba, the pilot reported hearing metallic noises emanating from the engine. Shortly after these sounds, the engine ceased functioning. During the descent, the pilot observed that the propeller had detached from the aircraft. The pilot subsequently performed an emergency landing in a rural field located approximately 5 km northeast of Monte Ralo. The aircraft sustained minor damage during the landing.
The investigation
The Argentine National Directorate for the Investigation of Aeronautical Occurrence (DNISAE) conducted an intervention following the event. The investigation focused on the mechanical failure of the engine group and the subsequent loss of the propeller. Due to the specific nature of the event, the authorities determined that the intervention was sufficient to document the malfunction and the sequence of the mechanical failure.
