What happened
On September 7, 2020, a Pipistrel Virus-SW121, registration LV-S045, was involved in a ground incident at San Fernando International Airport in Buenos Aires. The aircraft was engaged in a general aviation training flight. During the taxi phase toward the apron, the right main landing gear tire suffered a failure. There were no injuries to the single occupant of the aircraft, and no further damage to the airframe was reported.
The investigation
The Argentine Transportation Safety Board (JST) conducted a technical review of the event. Investigators examined the characteristics of the aircraft and the specific conditions of the tire following the failure. The investigation focused on determining whether the incident posed a risk to operational safety or required further technical intervention.
Findings
The investigation established that the incident was limited to a system/component failure involving the landing gear tire. Because the failure did not result in any damage to the aircraft structure or any impact on operational safety, the JST determined that no further investigation was necessary.
