What happened
On June 12, 2024, at approximately 19:00 UTC, a Cessna 150 G (registration LV-CGN) was conducting a general aviation training flight near Toledo, Córdoba. The aircraft was operating in the cruise phase of its flight, traveling on a route originating from and returning to Ad Coronel Olmedo. During this phase, the engine began to malfunction. In response to the power loss, the pilot executed a precautionary landing in an unprepared field located in a rural area of the province.
The investigation
The preliminary investigation focused on the sequence of events leading to the engine failure and the subsequent landing maneuver. Investigators examined the flight path and the conditions of the aircraft at the time of the incident. The aircraft, operated by a private owner, was performing a standard training mission under visual meteorological conditions (VMC). The landing took place in a non-prepared terrain, but the aircraft sustained no damage during the maneuver.
Findings
- The primary cause of the landing was an engine failure during the cruise phase of flight.
- The pilot successfully identified the need for an immediate change in flight plan to mitigate risk.
- The landing was performed in an unprepared field to avoid further complications.
- There were no injuries reported for the pilot or any other persons involved.
