What happened
On July 2, 2022, at approximately 13:00 UTC, a Tecnam P2002 Sierra, registration LV-S065, was performing a general aviation instruction flight at San Rafael Airport (SAMR) in Mendoza, Argentina. The aircraft was conducting a local circuit for training purposes when, during the landing phase, the right main landing gear tire suffered a puncture. Despite the mechanical failure, the aircraft remained under control and the incident concluded without any damage to the airframe or injuries to the two occupants on board.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the circumstances surrounding the landing at San Rafael Airport. The flight was a standard instructional operation, with the aircraft departing from and returning to the same aerodrome. The meteorological conditions at the time of the occurrence were reported as Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC). The investigation confirmed that the event was limited to the failure of the tire and did not result in any secondary damage to the aircraft's landing gear or structure.
