What happened
On October 24, 2020, a Cessna 150M, registration LV-CLJ, was conducting a general aviation training flight near El Dorado, Misiones. While operating in the cruise phase of the flight, the aircraft experienced a significant loss of engine power, which subsequently led to the engine stopping entirely.
Following the engine failure, the pilot was forced to execute an emergency landing on National Route 12, located approximately five kilometers from the El Dorado locality. Despite the nature of the landing on a roadway, the aircraft sustained no damage, and the pilot remained uninjured.
The investigation
The Argentine Transportation Safety Board (JST) reviewed the technical circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation focused on the engine power loss and the subsequent flight maneuvers required to reach the landing site. After evaluating the event and the condition of the aircraft following the landing, the authorities determined that the incident did not meet the threshold for a full-scale investigation under the established national safety protocols, as the event did not present significant implications for the improvement of national operational safety.
