What happened
On July 16, 2022, at approximately 13:30 UTC, a Learjet 35A, registration LV-BAW, was performing a general aviation executive flight departing from General Martín Miguel de Güemes International Airport in Salta, Argentina. During the takeoff phase of the operation, the aircraft experienced a mechanical failure involving the tires of the right main landing gear assembly.
Upon identifying the failure, the crew initiated an emergency diversion. The flight was redirected to Ministro Pistarini International Airport (Ezeiza) in Buenos Aires. The aircraft landed at the destination without further incident, and there were no injuries reported among the two occupants on board.
The investigation
The Argentine Transportation Safety Board (JST) conducted a technical investigation into the incident. The inquiry focused on the circumstances surrounding the tire burst and the subsequent operational decisions made by the crew. Investigators examined the condition of the landing gear components and the aircraft's performance following the failure.
Following the analysis of the technical evidence and the nature of the event, the JST determined that the incident did not present significant lessons for the improvement of national operational safety. Consequently, the authorities decided to conclude the investigation and move the proceedings to the archives.
