What happened
On November 1, 2020, a Cessna 150L, registration LV-IUV, was conducting a general aviation flight for pleasure from Morón Aerodrome to Lobos Aerodrome. While performing the approach phase of the flight near the Lobos airfield in Buenos Aires, the aircraft experienced a failure in the engine's power control mechanism.
Upon recognizing the malfunction, the pilot declared an emergency. The crew subsequently decided to abort the approach to Lobos and instead returned to the original departure airfield at Morón. The aircraft landed safely at Morón without further incident or damage.
The investigation
The Argentine Transportation Safety Board (JST) reviewed the circumstances surrounding the engine failure and the subsequent emergency procedures. The investigation focused on the technical nature of the power control malfunction and the operational response during the approach to Lobos.
