What happened
On June 29, 2023, at 16:20 UTC, a Bristell S-LSA, registration LV-S111, was conducting a general aviation training flight. Approximately three minutes after departing from the Aeródromo Héroes de Malvinas in Tandil, Buenos Aires, the aircraft's engine ceased operation. Following the loss of power, the crew attempted to return to the departure aerodrome; however, they were unable to reach the runway and performed an emergency landing in a field adjacent to the aerodrome. There were no injuries to the two occupants of the aircraft, and the airframe sustained no damage.
The investigation
The investigation was conducted by the Dirección Nacional de Investigación de Sucesos Aeronáuticos (DNISAE). The inquiry involved a documentary review of the event in accordance with established civil aviation investigation procedures. The investigation focused on the mechanical failure of the engine group and the subsequent flight maneuvers following the loss of power.
Findings
- The primary cause of the incident was a failure or malfunction within the engine group.
- The engine shutdown occurred shortly after takeoff, leaving insufficient altitude or distance to complete a return to the origin aerodrome.
