What happened
On July 14, 2025, at approximately 02:00 UTC, a Tecnam P2002 (registration LV-S094) departed from Chivilcoy Aerodrome in the Buenos Aires province for a local night flight training mission. The aircraft was operating in a dual flight instruction capacity.
During the landing phase of the flight, as the aircraft was approaching the runway, the left wing struck an animal present on the airfield. The impact caused the aircraft to strike the ground. Both occupants were able to evacuate the aircraft on their own. While the aircraft sustained substantial damage, the occupants experienced only minor injuries.
The investigation
The Argentine Transportation Safety Board (JST) initiated an investigation into the collision. The preliminary inquiry focused on the sequence of events leading to the impact and the presence of wildlife on the aerodrome. Investigators examined the aircraft's flight path, the environmental conditions at the time of the accident, and the physical damage to the airframe.
Findings
- The primary cause of the accident was a collision with wildlife on the runway surface.
- The incident occurred during a night operation under visual meteorological conditions (VMC) with good visibility.
- The aircraft was performing a standard instructional landing maneuver when the strike occurred.
