What happened
On August 13, 2022, at approximately 20:10 UTC, a Beechcraft 58-P, registration LV-CHY, was performing a general aviation ferry flight from La Plata to Malargüe Airport in the Mendoza province. During the landing phase of the operation, the propeller of the aircraft's right engine made contact with the runway surface. The incident resulted in minor damage to the aircraft, but no injuries were reported among the crew or the single passenger on board.
The investigation
The Argentine Transportation Safety Board (JST) conducted a technical review of the circumstances surrounding the event. Investigators examined the aircraft's condition following the contact and the operational procedures in place at the time of the occurrence. The investigation focused on the mechanics of the runway contact and the flight parameters during the landing at Malargüe Airport.
Findings
The investigation established that the primary cause of the incident was an abnormal contact between the right engine propeller and the runway during the landing roll. While the aircraft sustained damage, the impact was categorized as minor, and the structural integrity of the airframe remained intact.
