What happened
On September 7, 2022, at approximately 16:45 UTC, a Cessna 152, registration LV-CGD, was involved in an incident at the Morón Aerodrome in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The aircraft was being operated for general aviation flight instruction. During the taxi phase of the operation, while preparing for takeoff, the student pilot, who was flying solo, observed smoke appearing within the cockpit.
Upon detecting the smoke, the pilot immediately shut down the engine. The pilot was able to exit the aircraft safely on their own.
The investigation
The Argentine Transportation Safety Board (JST) conducted a technical investigation into the event. The inquiry focused on the circumstances surrounding the appearance of smoke and the subsequent condition of the aircraft. Investigators examined the mechanical state of the aircraft following the occurrence to determine the source of the smoke.
