What happened
On October 17, 2021, a Cessna 152, registration LV-CKO, was conducting a general aviation training flight at the Mercedes Aerodrome in Buenos Aires. Shortly after takeoff, while the aircraft was climbing at an altitude of approximately 300 feet, it encountered a bird. The impact with the bird caused minor damage to the aircraft's windshield.
Following the strike, the pilot maintained control of the aircraft, continued the takeoff climb, and completed the standard traffic pattern. The flight concluded with a normal landing at the same aerodrome.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the circumstances surrounding the bird strike and the subsequent condition of the aircraft. Investigators reviewed the flight phase, the altitude at which the impact occurred, and the resulting damage to the airframe. The technical analysis confirmed that the event was a single-bird strike incident occurring during the initial climb phase of a training maneuver.
