What happened
The incident involved a three-engine airplane operating a scheduled flight between Trondheim and Pechenga in the Murmansk oblast. During the cruise phase, the aircraft encountered foggy weather conditions. It subsequently impacted the wooded slope of Mt Breitind, located near Reipå, approximately 50 km southwest of Bodø.
The impact forces destroyed the airframe completely. All 16 occupants on board were killed in the accident. The group consisted of four crew members and twelve passengers. No survivors were reported from the site.
Findings
Official investigations determined that the crash was caused by a controlled flight into terrain. The combination of low visibility due to fog and proximity to mountainous terrain contributed to the collision with the slope.
