What happened
During the approach phase to Bahías de Huatully Airport, the flight crew encountered a mechanical failure that prevented the deployment of the landing gear. After determining that the gear could not be lowered, the crew proceeded with a planned belly landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft type (unspecified) made contact with the runway on its underbelly. The impact caused the plane to slide for several dozen meters before veering off the runway surface. Following the excursion, the aircraft caught fire and was ultimately destroyed by the flames.
Despite the intensity of the fire, all six occupants managed to evacuate the wreckage. There were zero fatalities and zero injuries reported among the passengers and crew.
Findings
- The primary factor leading to the accident was the inability to extend the landing gear during the approach to the airport.
