What happened
A flight originating from Austin-Bergstrom Airport was en route to Scottsdale-Municipal Airport when the incident occurred. The aircraft, a Gulfstream (registration not provided), was operated by Chromed and was carrying a total of four people, including two pilots and two passengers.
During the arrival phase, the crew performed the approach and landing on runway 21 under favorable weather conditions. However, immediately following touchdown, the aircraft lost directional control and drifted toward the left side of the runway. As the plane exited the paved surface, it struck various concrete structures on the ground. The impact with these obstacles caused the aircraft to lose its landing gear.
The aircraft continued to travel for several hundred meters across the airfield before striking a parked Gulfstream G200 located on the east apron. Although the collision was significant, no fire broke out following the impact. The accident resulted in one fatality and three serious injuries.
Findings
- The aircraft departed the runway centerline following touchdown.
- The sequence of events involved contact with ground obstacles and the subsequent loss of the undercarriage.
- The aircraft veered off the runway and struck a parked jet during the landing roll.
