What happened

During a flight approximately 83 km from its intended destination, the crew of the aircraft provided a position report to air traffic control while cruising at 7,500 feet. Roughly ten minutes later, the flight altitude had descended to 3,000 feet when the captain declared an emergency due to a double engine failure.

Following the loss of power, the aircraft lost altitude and impacted the ocean surface approximately 29 km from Los Roques Airport. Search efforts initially recovered minimal debris from the water. On 19 June 2013, an international search team consisting of Italian and Venezuelan personnel located the wreckage at a depth of 974 meters.

At the time of the accident, the aircraft was operating in poor weather conditions. The crash resulted in 14 fatalities, with no survivors among the occupants.
