Aircraft runway excursion during takeoff roll

No fatalities • Yei, South Sudan • Takeoff (climb)

A twin-engine aircraft veered off the runway and entered vegetation following an aborted takeoff due to engine issues.

What happened

During the takeoff phase, the pilot-in-command of the twin engine aircraft initiated an aborted takeoff at a high rate of speed. This decision followed the detection of an engine-related malfunction. While attempting to execute emergency braking procedures, the aircraft lost directional control, deviating to the left and exiting the runway boundaries.

Upon leaving the paved surface, the aircraft encountered soft terrain, which caused the collapse of the nose landing gear. The aircraft eventually came to a stop within a wooded area.

Outcomes

All 20 occupants on board were successfully rescued from the wreckage. The crew sustained two slight injuries, while the remaining passengers were unharmed during the incident.

Probable cause

An engine malfunction prompted an aborted takeoff, leading to a loss of directional control and subsequent runway excursion.
