What happened
During the final approach phase at Nyagan Airport, the flight crew identified that the aircraft was not correctly aligned with the runway centerline. Despite recognizing this deviation, the decision was made to proceed with the landing attempt.
As the aircraft made contact with the runway, the right wing made impact with the ground surface. This contact initiated a series of oscillations, with the aircraft rolling laterally for approximately 800 metres along the runway. The sequence concluded when the aircraft veered off the paved surface and eventually came to a stop within a nearby ravine.
Findings
- The crew proceeded with the landing despite being not properly aligned with the runway.
- The incident resulted in 15 injuries, with six of those classified as serious.
